Fudge Bars (Mary Smith)F

Fudge bars with oatmeal.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter
  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 ½ cups flour
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 cups oatmeal
  • 12 oz chocolate chips
  • 1 can condensed milk
  • 2 tbsp butter (for filling)

Instructions

  • Cream together 1 cup butter and 2 cups brown sugar.
  • Add 2 eggs and 1 tsp vanilla; blend well.
  • In a separate bowl, blend together 2.5 cups flour, 1 tsp baking soda, 1 tsp salt, and 3 cups oatmeal.
  • Divide the dough into two parts: 2/3 and 1/3.
  • Press the 2/3 portion into the bottom of a greased cookie sheet.
  • Roll the 1/3 portion into 24 small balls.
  • For the filling, blend together 12 oz chocolate chips, 1 can condensed milk, and 2 tbsp butter. Melt carefully over a double boiler.
  • Spread the filling over the oatmeal base.
  • Place the dough balls evenly over the top of the chocolate filling.
  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20-25 minutes.
  • Cut into squares while still slightly warm.
