Dutch Cream FrostingF

A buttercream-style icing.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup milk
  • 4 tbsp flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla (not artificial)
  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 cup white sugar

Instructions

  • Cook milk, flour, and vanilla over medium heat, stirring a lot, until thickened and bubbly.
  • Do not stir for 2 minutes once bubbling.
  • Remove from heat and cool.
  • Beat butter and white sugar together until very fluffy.
  • Add blobs of the cooled milk mixture to the butter and sugar, whipping until it forms peaks.
  • Add coloring if desired.
  • This amount should ice a 13 x 9 inch cake, not overly generously.
