Apple Crisp

Classic apple crisp with cinnamon apples and a buttery oat topping.

Ingredients

Filling

  • 8 apples medium, peeled and cut into chunks
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ tsp ground nutmeg
  • ¼ tsp salt

Topping

  • ¾ cup all-purpose flour
  • ¾ cup brown sugar
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • ½ cup unsalted butter cold and cubed
  • 1 cup rolled oats

Notes

  • A mix of tart and sweet apples works best.
  • Great served warm with vanilla ice cream or caramel.

Instructions

  • Heat the oven to 350°F and lightly grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  • Toss all filling ingredients together in a large bowl, then spread the mixture evenly in the dish.
  • For the topping, whisk the flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon together.
  • Cut in the cold butter with a fork or pastry cutter until the mixture is crumbly, then stir in the oats.
  • Sprinkle the topping over the apples.
  • Bake for about 45 minutes, until the topping is golden and the apples are bubbling around the edges.
  • Let it cool for a few minutes before serving.
  • Cover leftovers and refrigerate for up to 5 days.
